Is stress a personal problem? It's easy to think so, isn't it? After all, no one else feels the same way as I do, whether it's at work or otherwise. My co-workers are subjected to the same long hours and heavy workloads as me, but I'm the only one who bickers about it. So, basically, it's all up to me to manage my own stress. It's up to me to get over my woes.

Well, that's hardly the case. It's been decades since people first started studying about stress, and knowledge about it has increased by leaps and bounds. Yep, it's a science now - and basically, if you need to find help, there are many places where you can get some. Look around you - chances are there's a center for stress management nearby, just waiting for you to walk through their doors.

Centers for stress management come in all shapes and sizes these days, and they can be found anywhere. Stress management is such a broad topic, and much still needs to be learned about it, that it's impossible to contain all the possible services in a single type of institution. Here are some ideas on where to look for one.

Many tertiary-level and specialty hospitals have centers for stress management. Here, doctors who specialize in stress management conduct consultations, tests, and other services to determine how badly stressed-out you are and what you need to do about it. Other centers of stress management can be found in schools and research institutes, where study and instruction on stress management are carried out.

However, the best places to find help are in stand-alone stress management centers - there are quite a number already established. Here, special stress management treatments such as yoga classes, massage therapies, and counseling are offered. Stress management professionals often build their careers while working for such centers, and there are websites all over the Internet advertising the centers and their services. You'll be surprised at how many stress management professionals live near you when you do a quick Google search!

As mentioned before, these centers for stress management serve the public by offering stress management counseling and consultation sessions. Often, these stress management centers also serve the public through informative and interactive websites, community newsletters, and by supporting conferences about stress management.

But what if you're still a college student who can't afford the fees these centers for stress management usually charge? Well, try checking your school's clinics and academic research groups for help. More and more universities are establishing stress management centers that cater specifically to stress-ridden college students like you. These often go hand-in-hand with educational programs that include stress management in their curriculum. That way you could help eager young stress management specialists to gain valuable experience and do something about your stress levels at the same time!

Similarly, many offices and workplaces are incorporating stress management into their organizational structure. The administrations of these workplaces have realized that having a measure of stress management in the office can reduce employee absenteeism and dissatisfaction, and at the same time increase productivity and efficiency. Big corporations often have their own stress management centers, alongside employee food courts, credit unions, health clubs, and day-care centers. In other words, these are the companies we'd all rather be working for.

The kind of help that these company-based stress management centers varies from company to company. The smaller organizations sometimes take it upon themselves to pin daily jokes on the corkboard, or to have an employee-of-the-month awards system. Bigger workplaces may have awards nights, company dinners, or one or more stress management consultants who meet the employees on a regular basis. The biggest companies of them all often have stress management centers with professionals who are on-the-clock along with everyone else. That way the employees can get stress management counseling and consultations whenever they need it, and may even join in daily yoga classes to start the day.

Now it's easy to see that help with stress isn't that hard to find after all. The problem that most of us have is that we tend to dwell on our stress-related problems too long that we delay getting the help we need. Remember the saying, "When God closes a door, He opens a window?" Too often we find ourselves staring at the closed door so much that we don't notice the view from the window. It's the same with stress management - there's help for you, and all you need to do is look out the window.
